RELATED

As in the comics, The Sandman series tells the story of Dream, who is also the Sandman, played by Tom Sturridge.

Sandman's Origins

Sandman has different names such as Dream, Morpheus, Oneiros, Shaper, Shaper of Form, Lord of the Dreaming, Dream King, Dream-Sneak, Cat of Dreams, Murphy , Kai'ckul and Lord L'Zoril. Sandman is the embodiment of human's scariest nightmares and most sublime dreams. In this universe, there exist two basic worlds, the Dream Realm where Sandman is the Lord and the Wake Realm.

Dream is one of the Seven Endless, including Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight) and Destruction. They are all older than any gods or deities in the universe.

Sandman's Abilities

As his name suggests, Sandman has a body made of sand particles, so he doesn't need to eat, sleep, or even breathe. Sandman can disintegrate his body into sand, can also turn them into solid blocks of granite, and his body itself is already a weapon.

Sandman's Journey in the Modern Time

At the beginning of the last century, Sandman was captured by a mystical ritual and imprisoned for 70 years (in the comics). The series will be set in the contemporary world of the 21st century instead of the 1980s like in the comics, so Sandman has been imprisoned for more than a century.

Finally, Sandman managed to escape, taking revenge on his captors, starting to rebuild the dream kingdom that was almost destroyed because of a long absence of the master - himself; dreams and nightmares no longer even recognize their Lord when Sandman returns.

Sandman's absence over the centuries also set off a series of events that changed both the dream and wake worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must travel across different worlds and timelines to correct the mistakes he's made over the course of his billion-year existence, revisiting his old friends and foes, while encountering new entities - both the cosmic and man - along the way.

Spheres in The Sandman

In addition to Dream and Wake Realms, the series is occasionally set in other worlds, such as Hell, Elves, Asgard, and domain of other Endless. Notably, the actress born in 1979, 1m90 tall, Gwendoline Christie will play the role of Lucifer. She is widely known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

The film also stars Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting roles.

The Sandman is promised to be a rich blend of very dark horror with complex fantasy, combining classical and contemporary mythological elements, and ultimately placing the main character - Dream Master in the role of a tragic hero. The distinctive feature of The Sandman is the vivid personification of abstract human concepts.
