Since the events in the Nightmare of the Wolf, Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) has been trying to train his surviving disciples to become witchers. However, School of the Wolf  did not recruit any more disciples because the training scripts and laboratories were destroyed in the battle. Geralt's peers are practicing their monsters-hunting everywhere, and many died in the dangerous fights.

Every winter the disciples gather at Kaer Morhen; last time, Geralt met 20 people, this time only about 10.

Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz) returns from a fight with a tree-shaped Leshy monster and was stabbed by it. He looks fine so everyone think he was just safe, without any infection.

However, after an orgy with prostitutes, Eskel's transformation and mutation begin. Vesemir and Geralt struggle against Eskel in hopes of temporarily control him to find a cure later. However, the Leshy has completely taken over Eskel's persona.

Kaer Morhen now loses another member.
