Kofun was also the one who secretly freed Kane because he didn't want his son to lose his mother. However, Kane still does not give up the ambition to regain the throne by all means, including threatening her own child's life.

In Trivantes, the Council of power is now divided in opinions about the relation with Paya: the military side based on its new strength thanks to landmines wants to attack and defeat Paya, while others want to wait for the return of Ambassador Trovere to see the results of negotiations. Most likely the military will make a coup or trigger a civil war.

The veterans of the Witch Finders continue to gather forces, and they actively attack Kofun to kill him but fail thanks to the aid by Baba Boss and Charlotte. Maghra is so angry that her son almost died, she orders all the veteran Witch Finders to be arrested, gets some executed by hanging as a way of threatening, and then spares the rest.

Paya eventually learns of the Trivantes' situation and schemes, and they plan to deal with it, first going to the House of Enlightment to sabotage the dynamite-making efforts.
