While Rhaenyra tries to protect her son on the reason of being insulted as bastards, Queen Alicent demands that Rhaenyra's son Lucerys be gouged out as compensation for her son's loss of an eye. When Viserys refuses, a distraught Alicent attempts to attack Lucerys with a Valyrian dagger, but is stopped by Rhaenyra. Alicent stabs the Princess' arm, making it bleeding.

It seems that the Hightowers are now ready for a future war of thrones with Rhaenyra. Restoring his position as the Right Hand, Otto Hightower privately encourages Alicent's outburst behaviors and tells her that they would soon prevail.

Rhaenyra and Daemon unite against Alicient and the Hightower. To be together, Laenor must die to set Rhaenyra free again. Daemon suggestes that Laenor's lover Ser Qarl Correy stage a fake death for Laenor.

Daemon and Rhaenyra wed according to Ancient Valyrian tradition to continue their pure Targaryen blood, with their respective children attending a private ceremony.

After his fake death, Laenor, shaved off his head, secretly flees Driftmark with Ser Qarl to board a ship, intending to reach somewhere beyond the Narrow Sea for a happy and free life together.
