The Witcher Season 3: Will Princess Cirillia Become a Witchess or a Mage?

Netflix just dropped a trailer for The Witcher Season 3 series, in which Princess Cirillia (Freya Allan) seems to develop her combat skills towards becoming a Witcher like Geralt (Henry Cavill) instead of a Mage like Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). Season 3 will be released on June 29, 2023.

Ciri is a Witcher (or Witchess)

Freya Allan
In the trailer, Ciri rarely uses magic, instead she uses many martial arts skills in most of the fight scenes.

In one scene, she makes a dramatic acrobatic jump over a monster's attack; In another scene, she uses her sword to finish off a monster air down.

Ciri tells Geralt "We are Witchers"; Geralt replied, "Are we?" as a tacit affirmation to her.
Henry Cavill ... Geralt of Rivia

Geralt follows the path of neutrality

Henry Cavill ... Geralt of Rivia, Joey Batey ... Jaskier

The Continent of The Witcher is in the midst of many complicated power struggles: Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard is determined to conquer the kingdoms of the North; there are many internal conflicts and divisions in the magic world;  Elves wants to regain their past glory and lost position...

Having the blood of the ancestral Elves, and at the same time being the legal successor to the throne, Ciri became the target of most of the powers on the continent, including the Wild Hunts from another world. Geralt chooses the neutral path, ie not taking sides, to ensure the safety of Ciri.

Following the path of neutrality, Geralt's journey to protect Ciri seems to be a constant hide and run; and this path also has its own consequences.

Coup at Aretuza Magic Castle

Mahesh Jadu ... Vilgefortz of Roggeveen, MyAnna Buring ... Tissaia de Vries

Some scenes in the trailer show Aretuza Castle becoming a gathering place for the Mages and Sorcerers during a certain major event. It seems that the series will depict the coup taking place here as in the book.

At the time of the coup, Yennefer, Ciri and Geralt all were present at Aretuza Castle. In the book, they suffered many injuries and had to be separated after the coup, especially Geralt fell into a critical condition. In the trailer, it seems that Geralt would find Ciri again shortly after.

Emperor Emhyr

Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards), Ciri's biological father, also appears in the trailer, who sees a portrait of a small girl, presumably Ciri's.

In the book, after many failed attempts to find and capture Ciri, Emhyr used another girl who looks like Ciri as a substitute in order to legitimize his enthronement in Cintra.

The Wild Hunt

The trailer also features a scene where the Wild Hunt crew chases Ciri. In the book, the Wild Hunts want to capture Ciri because she has a special ability to open the portal connecting the worlds.
