Kirigan comes to know West Ravka's Independence Scheme

Mal takes Alina to a safe place and they argue about who didn't reply to whom in letters, and whether she knew she was Grisha, whether she lied to him or not. They set up a tent together and Alina uses her magic to keep them warm. The next day, Alina heals Mal's wounds and they plan to find the Tag. Alina thinks that if she could use it as an amplifier, she could develop enough power to destroy the Fold. After Alina escapes, Kaz Brekker and Inej argue over her failure to stop Alina. Kaz Brekker believes that Alina's power is an illusion. During that hopeless moment, they experience another despair when Kirigan track them down. The three struggle in the fight against Kirigan's Grishas.
