Episode 8 of "Shadow and Bone" - No Mourners follow the journey through the Shadow Fold with important developments that reveal Kirigan's ambitions and schemes; but in the end Alina is temporarily freed from Kirigan's control.

KIRIGAN'S AMBITIONS AND SCHEMES
During the journey through the Shadow Fold, Kirigan controls Alina's power to summon just enough light to protect the ship's safety, instead of summoning the full light to remove the darkness. Kirigan makes it clear that the Shadow Fold is his most powerful weapon, and there is no reason for him to have it dismantled.
As the ship is about to leave the Fold and reach the West Bank of Ravkan, Kirigan orders Zoya to stop the ship, he summons the dark to widen the Fold, covering the Western Ravkan General and the soldiers waiting outside. In fact, before that, Western Ravkan was intending when the ship crew appeared, they would kill them all. Their main target was Alina.
Kirigan seems to have known the plot of Western Ravkan in advance, so he took action first, both to stop the plot and to avenge the previous failed assassination attempt on Alina. Kirigan also wants to show his power to the emissaries from Fjerda and Shu Han to submit to Ravka.
ALINA CHALLENGES KIRIGAN
When Kirigan's intentions are revealed, Zoya, the Crows, and Mal work together to stop the dark from spreading. They simultaneously attack Kirigan and the Grisha entourage towards the goal: freeing Alina so that she could summon the light.
Alina manages to cut the bond mark on Kirigan's hand with a knife, thereby breaking the link between them. She summons the light to stop the expansion of the Fold. In the face of Alina's miraculous power, one fact is now made clear: the Tag chose the person to amplify the power and it was Alina the chosen one, even though it was Kirigan who killed it.
Mal and Kirigan fight each other and are thrown off the ship, but Mal makes it back in the end. Zoya lets the ship keep moving to get out of the Fold.
NINA & MATTHIAS
Meanwhile, from the snowy mountains, Matthias and Nina return to the town of Arkesk. They are in Ravka now, which means that Nina is no longer a prisoner, but she has to hide Matthias because he is a hostile Fjerdan. In the motel room, they dream of going somewhere where they can be together, because it can't be neither Ravka nor Fjerda. Sitting in the tavern downstairs, enjoying waffles, Nina and Matthias are interrupted by the Fedyor who knocks Matthias out by putting him on cardiac arrest and demanding Nina to hand him over. Nina had previously overheard men hunting escaped slaves for the bounty. She then shouts that Matthias is a slave who captured her. Bounty hunters swarm over, challenging Fedyor to take away Matthias, and Nina follows them as a witness later."SHADOW AND BONE" SEASON 1'S CLIFFHANGERS
Alina, Zoya, Kaz, Jesper, Inej and Mal have arrived safely in Western Ravka and between them some kind of unspoken alliance has just established. Inej promises that she will always be available if Alina needs her help and Jesper promises not to try to kidnap her (again).Alina gives Kaz an expensive piece of jewelry that she is forced to wear on Kirigan's orders – a precious item that can help Kaz pay off all his debts.
Alina wants to destroy the Fold once and for all, but she is not strong enough. Zoya warns Alina that she cannot stay in Ravka. Apparat will take over when the King is ill and will blame Kirigan and Alina for the West Ravka massacre. The best way is to hide, gather forces and regain strength before returning.
On the edge of the Shadow Fold, the evil-looking Kirigan suddenly appears, alive, dirty with black blood running through his veins (but still handsome) and mutter, "Follow me", and several giant dark creatures from the Fold step out and follow in his footsteps.
