Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are both based on the book A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. House of the Dragon explores the Fire & Blood chapter of the novel, set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of the Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen.

The Fire & Blood chapter describes the beginning of House Targaryen's demise in the war of succession to the Targaryen throne aka the hegemony of the Continent of Westeros, known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

Initially, the producer seemed unclear about the audience's reception for House of the Dragon, especially after the main series Game of Thrones had a controversial ending, causing disappointment for fans: the favorite character of Daenerys Targaryen got killed in a less glorious tragedy, Jon Snow was exiled ...

However, the premiere day of Episode 1 of the series received 10 million views - the highest in HBO's history, and reached 20 million after 1 week. The positive signal exceeded the producer's expectations, prompting the HBO to soon announce the production plan for Season 2. In fact, a lot of information shows that the script for Season 2, or the digital creation of dragons which have not appeared in the series' Season 1 … have been deployed in silence already.

Additionally, according to an article by the Hollywood Reporter, a Game of Thrones sequel series is in development, focusing on the fan-favorite Jon Snow.

In Season 8 and the final season of Game of Thrones, Jon Snow was identified as member of House of the Dragon, whose real name was Aegon Targaryen. For killing the Mother of Dragons, Jon Snow was banished from the continent of Westeros, forced to live beyond the Wall of the North, among the Wildlings.

Up to now, the development of the series focusing on Jon Snow probably is only in the stage of script writing, and whether it will be implemented or not is still a mystery. HBO has not yet officially confirmed anything about this sequel.
