RELATED

The Small Council finds way to force King Viserys to remarry and to produce more royal blood. Lord Corlys Velaryon – Chief of House of Velaryon suggests the king to marry his 12-year-old daughter Laena.

Laena is also the daughter of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (the wife of Lord Corlys). Princess Rhaenys is originally the daughter of King Jaehaerys' late eldest and hier son, and had been a candidate to succeed her grandfather's throne, but in the end Viserys was chosen. Rhaenys does not seem to have cooled off her dream of the throne and seems to want a future grandson to challenge the Crown Princess Rhaenyra.

Meanwhile, Rhaenyra, tasked with choosing a new knight for the White Cloaked Kingsguard, ultimately chooses Ser Criston Cole (who had defeated Daemon in the Tournament) for the position.

Daemon steals a dragon egg – the egg that King Viserys intended to save for his first prince. Otto Hightower and Ser Criston Cole volunteer to go to Dragonstone to claim the egg back. Daemon uses the red and powerful dragon Caraxes to show his power, bloodshed is very likely to happen.

Princess Rhaenyra suddenly appears at Dragonstone on the back of her golden dragon Syrax. She exploits Daemon's care for her to convince him to return the dragon egg.

Eventually, to the unexpectations of many, King Viserys announces his intention to marry Alicent Hightower, angering both Rhaenyra and Corlys. Corlys then approaches Daemon to form an alliance against Viserys.
